Frequently Asked Questions

What Type of Training Do You Offer?

V1 Time to Climb provides training under Part 61 regulations. This option lets students set their own schedules and customize training to their needs. There's no requirement for a formal ground school; students can study independently at home or learn directly from an instructor.

It's worth mentioning that the training standards for Part 61 and Part 141 are identical. The only difference lies in how training is structured and delivered. Both programs require students to reach the same level of skill and knowledge before passing FAA exams.

What's the Estimated Cost of Flight Training?

The cost to learn flying depends on factors like lesson frequency, the type of aircraft you choose, its availability, and your learning pace. Typically, the total cost ranges from about $8,000 to $14,000 based on the certificate you're aiming for.

How Long Will It Take to Complete Training?

The length of flight training varies based on the same factors that influence costs. FAA regulations require a minimum of 40 flight hours for a private pilot certificate, but the average student completes training in 50 to 60 hours. Most students spread these hours over several months to a year or longer, depending on individual schedules. You’ll discuss the best pace and lesson schedule with your instructor.

What's the Minimum Age to Begin Flight Training?

Flying lessons can start at any age. However, you must be at least 16 years old to fly solo and at least 17 years old to earn your pilot certificate. Starting too early may not be the most cost-effective due to age restrictions on solo flights and certification.

What's Required to Begin Training?

Getting started is straightforward: simply bring proof of citizenship (such as a U.S. passport or birth certificate) and schedule your first appointment with us.

How Are Flight Lessons Booked?

At V1, training is personalized and conducted individually. Lessons are flexible and arranged to fit your schedule and budget. We recommend booking lessons in advance to secure your preferred time slots. Typical lessons last about two hours, combining ground instruction and about an hour of flight time. You can schedule lessons by calling our office or through our online system.

Will My Instructor Always Be the Same?

You'll primarily have one instructor who will oversee your entire training. However, there may be occasions when another instructor steps in, such as when your regular instructor is unavailable. In these cases, we ensure the substitute instructor is fully briefed on your progress and training needs.

Is Renters Insurance Required?

You don't need special insurance when flying with an instructor. But V1 requires renters insurance before you can fly solo. This insurance must include liability coverage and at least $40,000 in coverage for physical damage. Here are recommended insurers:

What's Your Safety Record Like?

Safety is a priority at V1. Our training airplanes have dual controls, allowing instructors to immediately assist students when necessary. We follow strict maintenance practices conducted by certified mechanics at our facility. Occasionally, we might need to reschedule lessons due to aircraft maintenance or weather, but this is normal and reflects our commitment to safety.
